Arch Brexiteer: Jacob Rees-Mogg, Stokes the Fires of Controversy, Again!

Updated on April 4, 2019

Potential Successor to Theresa May: Jacob Rees-Mogg.

Jacob Rees-Mogg has the appearance and accent of an Englishman in a time, long gone. If ever there was a toff in parliament today, that accolade has to go to Mr Rees-Mogg.

Many hard right Brexiteers, both in and out of the Conservative party, see Mr Rees-Mogg, as a successor to Mrs May. If that day comes, when Theresa May, finally steps down, there will obviously be a leadership contest. Jacob Rees-Mogg is sure to throw his hat into the ring, to be a candidate. His biggest opponent, in any leadership contest, would have of course be, Boris Johnson, another arch Brexiteer and darling of the right, in the party.

Jacob Rees-Mogg it seems has a habit of annoying those on the left or the politically correct brigade. Whether, it is his pronouncements on food banks, saying they were a good thing, his Christian views or his political views, someone, somewhere, either hates Mr Rees-Mogg or laps up every word, he says.

This time, Rees-Mogg, has attracted the ire of haters, over something he did, regarding the Alternative for Deutschland party. On Twitter, the politician shared a link of AFD leader, Alice Weidel, making a speech in the Bundestag (German parliament). On his Twitter feed, Rees-Mogg asked, his 250,000 followers, to take a look at the AFD leaders speech. Mr Rees-Mogg thought, Alice Weidel's speech, was interesting.

As usual, People from all political persuasions and none were incensed. They have accused Mr Rees-Mogg, of promoting the AFD and what it stands for. The AFD itself, says it is not a racist party but, makes no apologies for being an anti-Islamic and anti-migrant party.

Alexander Gauland, one of the leading figures of the party, got himself into trouble in what he said over German footballer, Jerome Boateng. Gauland, praised Boateng, as a defender for Germany, in its national football team, but said not many Germans would want someone like Jerome Boateng, who is of mixed race heritage, to live next door to them. Many German football fans were outraged by this and Gauland, had to apologise for his outspoken, and as some see it, racist comments.

Jacob Rees-Mogg himself, obviously in reaction to the tirade of condemnation, has said he does not support the AFD. In merely posting the link, he was just highlighting what Alice Weidel was saying in her speech, praising the fact that the UK voted to leave the EU. The AFD, like UKIP in the UK, and many other populist parties in Europe, is for pulling out of the EU and for giving back the European nation-states, their independence.

Jacob Rees-Mogg, love him or hate him, is what he.
