Is Gold Precious ?

The story is all about "Hemangini",a little girl, whose name itself means Gold. The story is all about a nine year old girl who loses her gold chain, though she finds it later, the way her parents teach her about being careful and thoughtful about her belongings, is the main motto of the story.

The whole story is about the gold chain but there is also a moral which parents and kids need to know.Kids would be learning about being careful and mindful and parents would know how to teach children to be careful and thoughtful. So, lets learn from the story.

Hemangini,a little girl was very active and loved by all.At home, she was called Hema in short. She was always on her toes, running all around her home, playing and laughing. Her father would cuddle her as soon as he came home from farm.Every one loved her, for the way she was.

Life of a Farmer

Her father would go to the fields by the time she woke up.So,she could meet him only during lunch time and late evenings. There were no weekend trips or other enjoyments for them as Hema's father strived hard in the fields to get a good harvest and that was true happiness for them.

After working hard, that year,he could earn very high profits. He always went to the nearby towns and cities to earn more by selling the crop. So,that year he did the same and was very happy with the profits earned.

The Hard Earned Money

He decided to buy something for his cute little daughter, with the money he earned from the harvest that year.He was very happy to buy a gold chain in the jewellery shop, in the town, which was a sign of pride for him as they could hardly go to such shops or buy something there. So,he could buy gold chain for his daughter with the profits earned.

After coming home,he cuddled his little darling as usual and gave the gold chain to his wife to put it before the idol at home and then give it to Hema to wear. That was a custom for them to put every thing new they bought, to put before the idol and then use it. It was a sign of gratitude towards God to offer him everything they bought and then use it.

Hemangini was amazed on seeing the chain. She wore it with grace and pride and stood before the mirror to watch herself. She asked her mother to lift her up so that she could see herself in the mirror as she was not tall enough to have a look in to the mirror.

Then she would show it to all her neighbours and friends. Her mother warned her not to run in the fields, lest she would lose it.

Hema was unaware of the fact or instances where she would miss the chain unknowingly,if it loosens or if she drops it down. She wouldn't know ....

She didn't even know what would happen if she lost it.She couldn't understand its value or how much her parents valued it.It was just a gift for her which she would show off...But for her parents, especially her father it was the fruits of his year long hard work.

The life of a farmer can never be described in words. The hard work while he ploughs the fields, the hope for good harvest and the way he perspires in the fields, day and night taking care of the farm from weeds, stray animals and other forces which may destroy his farm. All these activities were unknown to Hema who was happy with the gift.

How and When

After coming back home,Hema's mother insisted her to give the chain so that she could put it in a safe place. But Hema was not willing to remove it.She said she would give it to her after dinner.

Later at night,Hema's mother asked her about the chain just before going to sleep. But Hema said she would herself put it in a safe place. Hema's mother didn't force her to give it back, thinking she would herself give it to her after some time.

The next morning, her mother wasn't able to find the chain with Hema. She asked her if she placed it anywhere. Hema proudly replied that she had put it very safe and that was to be appreciated as no one had told her how to put things so safe.

She said that she had wrapped it with the towel, which her father wraps on his head, daily while he goes to the fields. The towel was placed in his cupboard always so, it was a very safe place she could find to hide things in her father's cupboard.

It was shocking for her mother, she never thought that her daughter was being so foolish...so innocent !She couldn't find the towel in the cupboard as Hema's father had already gone to the fields, early in the morning. She couldn't find it anywhere, under the cupboard, anywhere in the surroundings, not even near the entrance of the house.

Her heart was thumping, she could realize the fact that the chain was LOST ! She couldn't charge Hema for her innocence or her own negligence of not putting things in safe place. Hema is a kid,I would have taken the chain last night. What would she say to Hema's father ?

Thoughts kept on creeping in her brain.By afternoon, when it was lunch time, she could only say Hema that the chain was not at home. Hema was not bothered, she coolly said,it must be in the towel, father would get it.

When Hema's father came home for lunch, there were no signs of discussion about the chain. He was busy having his lunch. Hema asked him if the chain was with him.But she was surprised to realize that her father didn't know anything about it.He even gave her the towel to find it.He kept staring at her with a grin as though yelling angrily on both of them for being so reckless.

Hema hadn't cried so badly earlier, though her father didn't charge her on any instance. Now she knew the value of the chain. She knew why it was so precious, recollecting the words of her father saying,"Its the sacrifice I made for the fruits of my hard work ".

She kept weeping for the whole night. She couldn't eat or sleep well. She couldn't even face her father. She was full of regression. It was the first time she was so guilty of her deeds. Then on she kept thinking how well she behaved or troubled her parents with her overconfidence. This made her realize about her parents. She was filled with guilt.

The Unforgettable Happy Moment and Moral

Early in the morning, she started searching for the chain again all around the house.Hoping to find it somewhere. But as she couldn't find it anywhere she decided to look for it in the fields after having bath and performing morning prayer.

While she was offering flowers to the deity of Krishna during morning prayer, she was surprised to see something hanging from the flute of Krishna. It was shining and was something she had never seen before with the deity.

She couldn't believe her eyes, it was the same GOLD CHAIN she thought to be lost! She pulled it out and kept shouting with amazement "My Gold Chain "My Gold Chain""My Gold Chain" "My Gold Chain" " I found it!"

She showed it to her parents running,crying,blushing....They too were filled with happiness. They kept listening to her smiling as usual.

After some time, she recollected where she had put it the day before and then doubted how could it be possible to find it near the idol ? Then she asked her mother who was busy preparing breakfast. She suggested her to ask her father about it as she knew nothing about it.

Then, her father told her that he had found it the day before, lying on the ground while he took his towel. He couldn't understand how to tell Hema that this was not the way to put things in safe place.Neither could he teach her the value of such ornaments nor could he yell on her for being so reckless as he could understand that it was sheer innocence but not recklessness. So, he did the whole thing only to make her realize its value. And her mother was being a part of the whole story, kept watching Hema quietly and observed the changes and signs of realization in her.

This was how they could teach their little one to be careful and to value hard work and sacrifice.Never in her life did Hema lose anything so precious, out of carelessness.Even if she misplaced things, she could find them immediately as she would be very careful about her belongings.

That is the way her parents taught her.How do your parents teach you ? How do you safeguard your belongings ?Do share your experiences through comments.

ONE THING I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND YOU HERE IS , DO ALLOW YOUR CHILD TO GO THROUGH BOOKS WHICH ARE MORE RELEVANT TO THEIR AGE AND ATTITUDE.

USUALLY THESE BOOKS WILL MAKE THE CHILD THINK OVER ABOUT THEIR ISSUES WITH THEIR PEERS AT SCHOOL,PLAY GROUND OR ELSE WHERE WHICH THEY MAY NOT BE ABLE TO DECIDE HOW TO TACKLE WITH.

BOOKS PROVIDE A GREAT SOURCE OF RELIEF AND TIPS TO THEM IN SUCH CASES, WHICH EVEN WE AS PARENTS MAY NOT BE ABLE TO HANDLE.

THE SET OF BOOKS BY ENID BLYTON IS AMAZING WHICH I PERSONALLY HAVE EXPERIENCED AS A PARENT AS CHILDREN DO FEEL IT ODD WHEN THEY HAPPEN TO HAVE ISSUES PEERS AND WE AS PARENTS MAY FEEL IT UNCOMMON.BUT ONCE YOU GO THROUGH THESE BOOKS, THE FIRST THING YOU'LL FEEL IS, THIS IS A VERY PETTY THING GOING ON WITH MY CHILD AND I NEED NOT TAKE IT OR MAKE IT SOMETHING SERIOUS AS THIS HAPPENS WITH MOST OF THE CHILDREN AND WE NEED TO STAY BALANCED AND GUIDE OURSELVES AND OUR CHILDREN IN A MATURE MANNER.

HOPE EVEN YOU'LL FIND THE SAME AFTER YOU GO THROUGH THESE BOOKS AND DO WRITE YOUR OPINIONS IN THE COMMENTS SECTION IF YOU HAVE FELT SO.

I ASSURE YOU WILL FIND A REMARKABLE CHANGE IN YOUR CHILD AFTER REFERRING THESE BOOKS.

The child's future depends on how you deal with him

What is a better way of dealing with children
