The best moisturizers aren't necessarily the most expensive, and if you love knowing exactly what you're using on your skin, and don't mind messing up your kitchen a bit, then this DIY whipped body butter cream recipe is for you.

What's better? How about three different ways to use it!

I've made custom skin care products for years, and everyone always asks what I use, so here's one recipe from my repertoire you'll love. It's easy to make, has all natural ingredients that are easy to get, and better yet, works wonders for most types of skin whether allergies or no.

This recipe is by far one of the most luxurious body creams you'll ever use, and it's just as simple to make. It works wonders in the winter months for dry, cracked elbows, knees, feet, and much more. It's got you covered, literally from head to toe!

Shea butter, from the nut of the African shea tree (Vitellaria paradoxa), improves skin tone, absorbs quickly, and revitalizes skin with vitamins A, E & F while moisturizing, and even has healing properties. It's about as hypoallergenic as you can get. Most people can use it with no problems. Almond oil, coconut oil and /or avocado oils are also great for skin and are rarely allergy causing oils which can also be included in the body butter.

Read on for the recipe.

Body Butter Creme Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 5 oz. shea butter (60%)
  • 3 oz. Fixed Oils (40%) your choice, such as; jojoba, grapeseed, sweet almond oil , avocado, soy, olive, coconut, etc.) You could even use Monoi de Tahiti for a divine luxurious addition
  • 1 tsp. cornstarch
  • 50- 80 drops of essential oils (or .25 oz. body safe fragrance)
  • 1-2 caplets of Vitamin E

Measurement Notes: 5ml = 1/6 oz. or 100 - 125 drops depending on viscosity of essential oils.

If you don't like shea butter, feel free to use any other type, such as; mango butter, cocoa butter, or a mix of your faves, as long as it's 60% of your total.

Directions:

Place butter(s) and fixed oils in a 4 cup Pyrex glass measuring cup.

Melt in microwave in 10 second increments and stir until melted.

Or use double boiler method. Fill a saucepan about halfway with water and place pyrex in the water bath to indirectly melt butter and oils together.

Once oils and butter are melted ,remove from heat, and stir in cornstarch.

Next, place the 4 cup Pyrex into an ice-bath. Set pyrex in a large bowl half filled with ice. Whip melted mixture to a frosting like consistency with a stick blender or immersion blender. It takes about 5 minutes or more for the ice to get the cream cold enough to look right, but keep blending. You can also put the whole thing in the freezer for a few minutes to speed the process, but I prefer just using the ice bath method. Just stick with it and you'll get beautiful results.

After you get the right consistency, stir in your essential oils and Vitamin E. Voila! You have a gorgeous body cream that your skin will love. Use within 6 months as there are no preservatives in this recipe.

3 Ways to Use Whipped Body Butter

1. The rough places on your body, like elbows, knees and toes could really benefit from regular softening of your homemade whipped body butter. And don't forget your overworked heels too.

2. Another way to use your fabulous whipped body butter is as an intense deep conditioning treatment or a leave-in conditioner. Just use a touch for only the split ends when you get out of the shower, because you don't want to end up with greasy looking locks. For the deep and intense conditioning treatment, just warm it up in your palms, slather it on every strand concentrating on the ends, and put a shower cap on for about 30 minutes (or up to a few hours). Then rinse, and air dry your luscious deep conditioned locks. I've even kept some of my melted body butter on the side (before the whipped ice bath step) and put it in a spray bottle with hot or warm water, shake it up and use that as a spray on leave-in conditioner too. Just be sure to shake it up before using each time.

3. This last usage for your whipped body butter is especially for those who spend a lot of time on their feet. And with a simple addition of a few choice essential oils; you can help prevent or remove varicose veins and boost your blood circulation. Namely; cypress, lemon, and helichrysum, can help these conditions with regular use. Read more on this specific use here; http://thecrunchymoose.com/varicose-vein-attacking-body-butter/.
