In my previous hub, Astrology: Saturn Part One, I explained Saturn as a planet and the history, qualities, and traits of Saturn. In this hub I will be speaking of exalted, detriment and fall signs of the astrology planet, Saturn. To refresh your memory a bit of Saturn is the planet of limitations, restrictions and structure in society.

Saturn in regards to a natal chart represents qualities, traits and abilities that we need to work on in order to improve and get ahead in life. Even so, what signs do Saturn flourishes it? What zodiac signs angers Saturn and what zodiac signs frustrates Saturn?

Exalted: Saturn in Libra.

Saturn is exalted in the zodiac sign of Libra. Exalted in astrology means the highest and best position a sign in a planet can be in. It is exalted in Libra because Libra captures the true and ultimate expression of Saturn’s energies.

Libra is an air sign and of cardinal quality and energy. Libra is an intellectual, fair, and indecisive. Libra’s mission is to balance things out and weight all options and considerations. It is quite confusing that it is exalted in Saturn, especially since its ruled by Venus (a planet of pleasure).

Even so, when you think about it, it makes sense. Saturn in Libra can see the justice and logic in the hard-work that Saturn demands from us. Libra likes to balance things out, so when there is hard work there is also pleasure and vice versa. Libra understands this. Saturn is also a social sign (along with Jupiter). Social signs are as much personal as they are social. Just as Saturn constricts, Jupiter expands and Libra, out of the other zodiac sign gets this balance. Libra seeks relationships and harmony, as much as they seek justice and balance. So Libra also understands that through hard-work, and relationships is how we can grow and get better, especially in the stern eyes of Saturn.

Detriment: Saturn in Leo and Cancer

Detriment: Saturn is in detriment in the zodiac signs of Leo and Cancer. Detriment represents a planet and zodiac signs most difficult and challenging position. Detriment doesn’t fit the ideals of a planet that it’s supposed to represent at all.

Saturn in Leo and Cancer is in a peculiar position. Leo is a fire sign, while as Cancer is a water sign. Leo is ruled by the Sun, a fire sign and is a fixed sign. Cancer is ruled by the Moon, a water sign and a cardinal sign.

Leo as a fire sign is aggressive, passionate and energetic. Leo is also proud, arrogant, ego-centric, and to honest quite selfish. Leo does not want to understand it must think of others, along with thinking about itself. Leo is a fixed sign too, so they are stubborn and resistant to change, an important ingredient in Saturn’s recipe. Leo must learn to let go and change. Leo is also a zodiac sign that does not what to be taught, they are too proud to be taught Saturn’s lessons. This can be seen as bruise to the ego and Leo will resist Saturn’s lessons. Leo as a fire sign, has the natural ability to fight and persevere; though this doesn’t kick in until they realize to stop being stubborn, to put their pride aside and to let Saturn teach them.

Cancer on the other hand is a water sign, intuitive, emotional depth and passiveness. Cancer is also quite needy, moody, and sensitive. Saturn is a cold, hard planet and Cancer is a warm, moist sign. Already they are fundamentally different and incompatible. Cancer may be too sensitive and emotional for Saturn’s lessons.

While as, Cancer may depend on others too much in a relationship and not look into themselves for the courage it takes to face Saturn. Cancer may choose to run away and retreat into their shells. Cancer needs to learn to not let their emotions and sensitivities control them and to work with Saturn. Saturn may seem unfair, but Saturn provides opportunities for growth and improvement.

Fall: Saturn in Aries

Saturn is in the Fall in the zodiac sign of Aries. Fall in astrology represents a sign in which its position in a planet is uncomfortable and weak. Though this position is not the worst position it’s difficult to express the nature of the planet. The Fall of a planet will always be in the sign in opposite of the exalted sign.Aries is the sign opposite to Libra.

Aries is a fire sign, like Leo so they too are passionate, aggressive and selfish. Even so, Aries like Libra is a Cardinal sign and they understand the opportunity and rewards associated in initiative needed to fulfill Saturn’s wishes. Aries is not stubborn and proud like Leo and not too emotional and sensitive like Cancer. Aries has the ability to change and to use their cardinal nature as a means do it.

Overall, Saturn in astrology represents limitations, and structure. Saturn seen as difficult planet through the ignorant eye is actually a teacher that has created lessons for us. These lessons teach us the importance of hard work, discipline, responsibility and duty.

Along with these lessons Saturn gives us tools to help us; tools such as strength, stamina, emotional durance and resilience. Tools used to help us and tools that later becomes gifts that we can use over and over again. Saturn also humbles us and allows us to achieve our goals in a realistic and beneficial way.
