From December 22nd – January 19th the sun is in the astrological sign of Capricorn. Capricorn is the tenth sign of the zodiac and the third earth sign among the three earth signs (which are Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn all in that order). Capricorn is ruled by the planet Saturn. Aquarius is also co-ruled by Saturn. Saturn as an astrological planet represents limitations, government, restrictions and society structures. Saturn rules over the tenth house and is associated with the eleventh house; but since modern times the eleventh house is assigned to and ruled mainly by Uranus. The tenth house rules over the career and the eleventh house rules over friendships.

Capricorn is an earth sign whose element is earth, duh :). Capricorn is of cardinal quality and rules mainly over the tenth house. As stated above the tenth house rules over and governs your career. The tenth house, also called the mid-heaven is the most exposed and public house in our natal chart. It represents our public life and how we use our career to contribute to society. These facts about Saturn and the tenth house allow us to come to a healthy and logical assumption that career and limitations are important to a Capricorn.

Capricorn’s phrase is “I use” and Capricorn’s symbol is the goat. This symbol represents the hard-working mountain goat who’s desire and destiny centers on climbing to the top of the mountain where security awaits. The symbolism in Capricorn’s glyph is quite interesting. The V shape depicts the beard of the mountain goat and the tail represents a fish (a sea-goat to be more exact). As the goat climbs the mountain to look for more secure grounds, security and hard work is important to Capricorn. This sign is very similar to the other earth signs, Virgo and Taurus in the sense, because these signs to work hard to gain security (often times material security). While as, just like the other earth signs, Capricorn is efficient, practical and grounded. Though Capricorn is also pretty different from the other earth signs, a major difference is this intense ambition.

Capricorn is of Cardinal quality, meaning they are, along with Aries, Cancer and Libra, the initiators, and self-starters of the zodiac. This gives Capricorn the motivation to create things such as creating jobs or owning a business. This is partially why Capricorn are consider the boss, and the business leader/business-head of the zodiac.

Even so, another reason is Capricorn’s intense ambition they can only go up like that symbolic goat that represents the sign of Capricorn. They can’t just be a student or an employee. They just can’t be an assistant, a manger, a vice president or even a president of a company. They want to be the president of their own company, and not just one, several. To state again, Capricorn’s phrase is “I use.” This explains how a Capricorn is resourceful and uses the resources around them to their advantage and to help them to succeed, this making them again very ambitious.

Capricorn is ruled by Saturn (who rules over the tenth house of career). This makes Capricorn serious, hard-working, and quite disciplined. They understand that to reach the top one, must work. They also have and understand the need to restrict themselves and to save and put off pleasure and gratification until a goal is met. Capricorns would rather complete a task or goal slowly, but sure-footedly (just like that ambitious mountain goat), if its means that is right, follows correct protocol and doesn’t waste time.

Classic workaholics work is there life and time is important (another trait for the Saturn native). Traditionally Saturn also rules over time too, so time is money. Even so, Capricorns put off a lot for their professional pursuits; this includes their emotions and all the pleasures of life. It is easy to say Capricorns don’t feel, but this isn’t necessarily true. Emotions are difficult to express for Capricorns and it is not in their nature to be gushy and sappy (blame Saturn). Even so, Capricorns also don’t have time to ponder their emotions which can be distracting. Not only that but emotions irrational, illogical, unstable and overall not beneficial to their ambitious plans. This makes Capricorns overall reserved, lonesome and stand-offish to people.

Even so, this also makes Capricorn stable and dependable and an unlikely family man. Capricorn (and Saturn) is also associated as the father of the zodiac (Cancer, its opposite sign is the mother of the zodiac). The stern father, Capricorns have the ability to teach and pass on examples of responsibility, accountability and good work ethic.

Even so, like emotions this happens in due time. Overall Capricorn in the zodiac wheel is the worker, the boss and lonesome but steady and ambitious goat.
