Watercolors: Poem 14
Paint me in Watercolors.
'Watercolors' is poem 14 in a series of special poems by New Zealand poet Pearldiver. This poem reflects what is becoming more common today as we humans immerse ourselves into a reliance on social media and non face to face interactions; we tend to forget how very important it really is, to actually know people as real people, rather than what we think they, or their web presence are, or should be, as determined by 'artificial' factors.
As people become more dependent on their ability to assume correctly in their familiarity with total strangers, or an avatar, the greatest casualty becomes, the actual loss of opportunity to genuinely and sincerely get to know and understand those others, as real 'people'. Online there is often a dependence on getting to know people from how they write and handle themselves grammatically, rather than naturally hearing their spoken words, along with the context, expressions and associated body language; those very important factors that are used by humans when they do meet and communicate in person.
Potentially, this hollow process has the ability to evolve into producing extremely shallow personalities, with little ability to genuinely understand fellow humans, their personal attributes, nature and their importance to all of us, as an individual rounded enough personality wise to provide us with a balanced personality, that does not foolishly assume everything. People seem to always be seeking some form of reality in their online lives, yet struggle to consider what that actually represents, in terms of a real life environment. Watercolors - Poem 14 (paint me), is a plea to 'being real' and not losing sight of who we, as people really are. In some respects, it is a poem of hope, that we learn to care enough about ourselves and others, to be real. Enjoy this piece.

Poem #14
‘Watercolors’
Paint me
In your worst efforts to flatter
Colorlessly, with no depth or sense of purpose
Paint me
In your most scathing criticism
A self portrait of unrequited desire and envy
Paint me
In your stormy, angry moods
Just scatter my heart across a canvas barred
Paint me
In a moment of vulnerable honesty
To bless the world in a spectrum of your true talents
Or just paint me
In the pure context of who I am
And show me all the colors you find within my soul
If you choose the right watercolors
I promise that you will truly see
Every tone, every contrast, every need to be
But only, a true heart can ever, paint the real me
