Things to Do in Dublin 2017

Updated on August 10, 2017

If you are visiting Dublin in the near future, then this article is here to help you out.

Below you will find the best places to visit in Dublin, Ireland's bustling capital city. Some will be epic, some historical and then others are just plain fun.

This city has culture, fascinating people, thousands of years of history and a fantastic nightlife. It has been listed by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network as a global city ranked as "Alpha-". This means that Dublin is ranked in the top 30 cities in the world alongside the likes of Zurich, Melbourne, Miami, Boston, Vienna and Munich.

There are so many places to see, so I will be updating this article whenever I have time. Feel free to leave comments. They may help out someone else!

1. The National Museum of Ireland

2. Watch A Rugby or Soccer Match at the AVIVA Stadium

3. CROKE PARK TO WATCH HURLING OR FOOTBALL AND VISIT THE MUSEUM

Croke Park has an amazing history dating back to 1884 and is the home of the Gaelic games and GAA. Every year, the all Ireland final of both gaelic football and Hurling are played in this 82,300 seater stadium which also proudly hosted the opening ceremony of the 2003 special Olympics. The stadium is also host to a beautiful museum to help answer all the questions you will have about the history of this fine place.

4. St.Stephens Green - To relax and take photos

My wife (USA) and I (Irish) both love this park, which is situated right in the middle of Dublin city. It is a vibrant, well groomed and historical park, where you can sit and relax, watch the birds fly by and snap some photos of its many monuments and water features.

5. Dublin Zoo

I have many great memories from Dublin Zoo. On my last trip there, I was shocked to see how it has advanced over the years. It opened in 1831 and now covers 69 acres of land. It is home to many endangered species and was the subject of an Animal planet documentary in 2012, which was filmed almost entirely on location in Dublin Zoo.

6. Guinness brewery - St. James Gate

7. Architecture

You will find many amazing buildings spread across the city. Some building house ancient relics like 'the Book of Kells' at Trinity College Dublin (TDC), and some are just there to stare at while you think, "that's pretty cool".

Please check out the photos below, each with a description of the splendid structure in question.

General Post Office (GPO) - Construction completed 1817

The Spire of Dublin - The Monument of Light stands at 121.2 meters high (398 ft)

Wellington Monument - Phoenix Park

O'Connell Monument

National Conference center

Samuel Beckett Bridge

Sean O'Casey Bridge

Ha'Penny Bridge

8. Shopping in Dublin

Much of the tourist activity takes place in the city center and there are many large and fantastic Malls/ Shopping centers to choose from. Outside of the city there is more space and thus, larger shopping centers/ Malls exist in the suburbs. You can easily grab a taxi or catch a bus out to the area of your choice. The transportation is world class although one should be careful, as taxi's can be expensive. The Luas (light tram), or a bus would be cheaper. The city center streets are also home to the worlds best brands and one may be satisfied by simply staying within the city limits.

Dublin has been ranked among one of the best places in the world for bachelor/ bachelorette parties and Hen nights and has a world renowned club and pub scene.
