Far Cry 3 the Motherlode Quest

In Far Cry 3, the hero Jason must descend into the mines and explore the mines to find the third compass. This is the Motherlode Quest. Meet Buck before the mines and then head into the mines. Find the lift and descend into the mines. This will guide Jason on how to defeat the pirates in the mine and find the third compass. In particular, it will guide Jason on how to defeat the pirates in the part of the mine prone to caving in without being buried under a ton of motherlode.

Far Cry 3 Follow the Tracks to Explore the Mine

From the lift, the hero may want to use a mining cart and hide behind it and then use it as cover to take down pirates using the sniper rifle or manually. Yes, this is Indiana Jones style on Rook Island. Proceed and take down more pirates. Just when Jason thinks all the pirates are down, there are more pirates to defeat. Jason will have to use ranged explosives such as grenades here.

Get rid of the initial pirates and then head into the cave-in prone part of the mine. Here, Jason should allow the pirates to come to him and not venture further as the pirates (flamethrower pirates in particular) will cause the wooden beams to collapse and the roof will come down. Instead Jason should switch to RPG type weapon and crush the pirates from far and then move into the vulnerable part of the cave. When Jason sees a pirate, the RPG should go off at once. Near the end of this part of the quest, Jason will face some snipers. Use sniper weapon against sniper weapon and then switch back to RPG. Make sure Jason has at least four slots of health and can heal without syringes at this point. Once most of the pirates are down, run to the exit and use the flamethrower on the remaining pirate. Then enter the mystical room.

Far Cry 3 Enter the Mystical Room and then the Treasure Room

Jason then needs to proceed to the mystical room. Here there will be komodo dragons camouflaged against the background, so arm yourself with a flamethrower and attack them on sight. Or they will just bite Jason’s leg and then Jason should attack them on sight. Once the first komodo dragon is down, proceed to the yin-yang structure and turn it to proceed further.

The way the next komodo dragon is positioned is devilishly cunning. Jason is unlikely to spot the komodo dragon, and will run into it. Then as Jason is trying to step back to ignite the komodo dragon, he will fall into the pit below.

The key to going past this part is to walk and take out the komodo dragon, igniting the flamethrower as he walks. Then jump through a series of natural ledges to reach an old elevator. A snake and another komodo dragon will attack Jason at this stage. After fending off their attacks, take the creaky old elevator down. Of course it will collapse under Jason’s weight.

Once Jason climbs up, it’s time to try to reach the treasure room again. There will be a ledge here that will be positioned like it is continuous with the ground. It is not. Jump across and then proceed past the wooden bridge and jump past more ledges and reach the treasure. There, pick up the third compass (after tackling yet another komodo dragon).

Once Jason gets the third compass, the treasure room and temple will erupt in flames. Escape the temple before everything collapses. Jason will have to jump at one of the final ledges here and then make a bolt for the exit.

Speak to Buck and then proceed to get the knife.
