Chocolate Applesauce Cake-Your Mouth Will Thank You
Your Mouth Will Thank You
My grandmother was an amazing cook. She always had these wonderful recipes to share. This one was passed down from her mother and maybe further back. My uncle used to breeze through the kitchen while it was cooling and snatch slices to eat on the way. This is wonderful even without the frosting. We would sometimes bake it and eat it warm with butter on it. It is so moist that you don't even need milk to wash it down with. The flavor is fruity and chocolaty, a favor to your taste buds. I know you will enjoy this.
Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 4-5 rounded tablespoons powdered baking cocoa
- 1 stick butter or margarine, melted
- 2 cups applesauce
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup milk
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Melt butter/margarine in your rectangular cake pan in your oven. This will do dual duty of greasing your pan and melting your butter.
- Sift all dry ingredients into a large mixing bowl. Pour all wet ingredients, including melted butter into your mixing bowl and stir until all ingredients are mixed well.
- Pour into cake pan and bake until edges start to pull back from the sides of pan, about 35 minutes.
