9/11 for my family and I

On 9/11/2001, I was not sitting glued to the TV screen, watching in horror. I was moving across the country. I was trying to get my heat sensitive husband moved from Arizona to cooler Tennessee. There was a rental home waiting for us. We had called a Realtor and he was holding a house for us.

We had gotten to Arkansas and spent the night in a motel. We got up,dressed, ate a breakfast of milk and pastries that I had gotten at the grocery the night before. We loaded everyone in the U-haul and car and headed to the gas station. Usually, my husband would watch the news while we were all getting ready but this day, he did not. We found out about the plane crashes after the towers had fallen. We had stopped to get gas and there was a TV on in the travel center we got the gas at.

We decided we had better hurry up and get where we were going. We figured the price of gas was going to go up. It did. The price of gas tripled that day. Not at all stations, just the bigger chains. We avoided them and went to the ones across the street, which were half the price.

By the time the sun set, we were in Tennessee, at a campground just outside the town we were moving to. We set up the tent, crawled in and went to sleep. The next morning would be early. Breakfast, Realtor and hopefully, moving into a rental home.

Boat Rescue from Manhattan

I have been watching, without much attention, the different memorials and news programs being offered this year on the 10th anniversary of 9/11. I couldn't think of any part of it that I wanted to remember. It was a terrible time and I am not much one to dwell on the past. I would rather think into the future or think of pleasant memories. One thing caught my attention though.

I saw a You Tube video, narrated by Tom Hanks, talking about the rescue of people from Manhattan on 9/11. I had never thought of it but yeah, it is an Island. I had learned in History class about the colonists buying it from the Indians for trinkets of beads, knives, and things like that. I never thought about how people got off that Island when they shut down all the Bridges, subway systems, and public transport. How did those people get off that island?

This video shows us how. The Coast Guard and Ferries were trying to evacuate the island. They had a problem because there were a lot more people than they could handle and the people were panicking. They were convinced that they were running for their lives and were going to be under attack again. The Coast Guard put out a call for help. How often does that happen? Never!!! This video shows what happened,

Please remember to vote. I really appreciate the comments that I get on my hubs. They help me see if I am writing useful, interesting, informative hubs. If you would like to use information on these, please ask and please attribute. This is copyrighted work.
