The person has been working as a freelance writer since 2011 and graduated from Indira Gandhi National Open University in Delhi, India.

Control your destiny

I was speaking to my colleague who is working as a secretary. He is in that position for about 10 years and getting increment every year. But his designation is not changing. It remains the same for over a decade and there is no hope of changing it in the near future and he hates that designation. When we come to this subject, he told me that "it is my destiny and I cannot change it".

That words caught my attention. It made me think about it for a long time. I remember that I heard that phrase from different people at different times. A shopkeeper, who runs a small grocery shop in our area told me that running that small shop is his destiny, he cannot change it. I talk to a student, who told me about his B grade, "It is my destiny, I cannot change/get more than this."

By saying "It is my destiny, I cannot change it" we are limiting ourselves in a self-made cell. We are building walls around us. Let me introduce you to one of my other colleague, who was joined in the same organization as a secretary. He worked as a secretary for around three years. But he was more interested in IT (Information Technology)than his current position. After a few months of his joining, he discussed with his IT colleagues about his interest and they advised him to do some IT related course. After doing the IT course, he requested a transfer to the IT department. When there was an opening, he got the transfer to IT department. He loved his job and done a few more courses related to IT. Now he is the Head of the Department of IT. Both are working in the same organization for a long time. One controls his destiny, and the other limiting himself where he is.

Be willing to take the short-term pain for the long-term pleasure

We need to be willing to take some short-term pain for the long-term pleasure. Many of us are not willing to take the short-term pain in order to get the long-term pleasure. Taking a course which teaches a skill can increase our chance of getting a better job. A student can spend a little more time in his studies and get an A grade. By saying "It is my destiny" we are limiting ourselves. We are building walls around us. We are making a self-made block in our path of growth.

It is time to give a careful look at what is limiting us from growing. The shopkeeper can expand his business by investing some more capital. If he does not have the capital, He can make a plan to save some money by cutting some expenses. Or take a loan from a bank or look for other options. He is not destined to be a small shopkeeper. He can grow his income potential.

I am not talking about natural calamities. We cannot control them. It can come at any moment. But there are certain things which we can control.

Everyone can improve their situation by careful analysis and adoption of suitable strategies.

Believe in yourself.

First, you need to remove the limiting belief and say there is a lot of opportunities to grow. Stop saying that limiting words like "It is my Destiny". Believe and say there is an opportunity to grow and improve. Say that there are scope and hope. I can grow and there is a lot of opportunities.

Look for the blocks

Secondly, you need to find out what is limiting your growth. Is it a degree or some courses?. Is it a wrong choice of your career? Is it Capital? Is it a little more study? (You cannot say that you are too old to study. Read the story a woman, named Rose. it is very inspiring) Is it your habit of spending more time watching TV than studying? Is it the habit of playing computer games. Is it a lack of knowledge of a particular language? Examine it. You know it better than anyone else. You cannot say, it is your destiny.

Correct it or Take Action

After you find out what is limiting you, you need to correct it. It could be spending more time in your studies, or arranging capital for expanding your business or joining for an evening course or starting a new business or income source etc. Find out a way to grow. No one can stop you. Find out where you missed out, go there and start anew.

There is nothing to lose but the chains that locking you.

Control your destiny.

Even when Jesus was questioned about the blind man, Jesus never told them "it's his destiny" or something like that. Let us see what Jesus told about this blind Man.

As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?" "Neither this man nor his parents sinned," said Jesus, "but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life. As long as it is the day, we must do the work of him who sent me. The night is coming, when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the light of the world." Having said this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man's eyes. "Go," he told him, "wash in the Pool of Siloam" (this word means Sent). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing.

See even someone born physically handicapped, his disability isn't his destiny. There is a purpose for everything. Find out the purpose of your life.

The purpose of life is a life of purpose
